iPhone subscription checklist

How to find all your subscriptions on iPhone

Your Apple subscription list is the best place to start, but it is not always the whole picture. Use this checklist to find Apple-billed plans, direct payments and annual renewals without giving a budgeting app access to your bank account.

Why the Apple list may not show everything

The Subscriptions screen covers plans billed by Apple for the Apple Account currently in use. A service can instead bill you through its own website, PayPal, a mobile provider or another Apple Account. Apple says purchases made outside its in-app purchase system are managed by the developer or provider, not by Apple.

1. Check Apple purchase history

Open the App Store, tap your photo or account button, then choose Apps & Purchase History and Purchase History. Change the default date filter if you need to look beyond the last 90 days. You can also use reportaproblem.apple.com while signed in.

Purchase history can help identify older app purchases and charges that do not immediately make sense. Apple provides more detail in its guide to viewing App Store purchase history.

2. Check other Apple Accounts and receipts

If a plan is missing, consider whether it was bought with another personal, work or older Apple Account. Search every email address you use for receipt from Apple, invoice from Apple, subscription, renewal and trial. The receipt should show which Apple Account was used.

3. Check direct payments outside Apple

Review 12 months of bank and card statements, PayPal automatic payments and email receipts. Streaming, fitness, software and news services often sell plans directly on their websites. A service used on an iPhone is not necessarily an Apple-billed subscription.

Confirm an unfamiliar charge using a receipt or the provider account instead of guessing from the merchant name. Apple explains that subscriptions purchased outside Apple must be managed with the provider in its guide to purchases outside the App Store.

4. Put every renewal in one list

For each subscription, record:

Convert a monthly price to a yearly cost by multiplying by 12, or use the free subscription value calculator to compare your total with a spending target. Keep different currencies separate.

5. Cancel through whoever bills you

Deleting an iPhone app does not cancel its subscription. For an Apple-billed plan, open it in Settings > your name > Subscriptions and choose Cancel Subscription. Apple says that if there is no Cancel button, or an expiry message appears in red, the subscription is already cancelled. If the provider bills you directly, use that provider's current cancellation process instead.

iPhone subscription questions

Why can I not find a subscription in iPhone Settings?

It may use another Apple Account or be billed directly by the provider, PayPal, your bank or a mobile network. Check purchase history and Apple receipts, then inspect 12 months of email and payment records.

Does deleting an iPhone app cancel its subscription?

No. Delete the app only after cancelling through Apple or the provider that handles the billing. Keep the confirmation and check the next statement to make sure the payment stopped.

Can I track subscriptions without connecting my bank?

Yes. You can build a manual list from Apple subscriptions, purchase history, receipts, provider accounts and statements. Subs HQ stores the subscription details you enter on your device and does not require a bank connection or a Subs HQ account.
